An AI chatbot that answers from your own documents

A knowledge base chatbot searches your manuals, policies and FAQs and answers questions using that material, so staff and customers get consistent answers.

How it works

Your documents are split into passages and indexed. When someone asks a question, the system finds relevant passages and has an AI model write an answer from them, ideally with a link to the source.

What makes it good

  • Clean, current source documents
  • Answers that cite where they came from
  • A clear response when the documents do not cover the question
  • A path to a real person

Where it goes wrong

Outdated documents produce outdated answers. Gaps can lead to confident but wrong replies unless the system is set to say when it does not know. Test with real questions before launch.

Who it suits

Teams with lots of internal documentation, repeat customer questions, or onboarding material. See what small businesses can automate for other starting points.

Common questions

Can it use private documents safely?

It can, with proper access controls and a vendor whose data handling you have checked.

Will it make things up?

Any language model can. Grounding answers in your documents and requiring sources reduces the risk but does not remove it.
